Quaker Steak and Drug Mart Plaza
Above is a photo of elevation schematics presented to the Lakewood Architectural Board of Review on 01/14/2010 by developer Giltz & Associates. The plan shared with ABR calls for a Quaker Steak and Lube to be located at the east end of the strip and a remodeled and expanded Discount Drug Mart on the west end. A DDM pharmacy drive-thru kiosk in the rear parking lot serviced by underground pneumatic tubes is also included in the plans. All design plans are yet to be approved by the City.
When the Downtown Lakewood Design Committee met with Giltz in spring of 2008, we emphasized the importance of following the streetscape plan (not yet been adopted) by removing the angle-in parking on Detroit Ave. and remodeling the north (rear) side of the building since that would be where most people would enter businesses.
We are very pleased to see that the Giltz plan reflects both of those recommendations among others. We are especially pleased to see the pedestrian orientation of the deep sidewalk that will also allow for outdoor dining and programming opportunities in the area.

Can anyone explain the past due real estate taxes on this parcel and how this may affect the developers plan?

Why would you put it there, when IHOP is closed? Would it better serve the community to use the IHOP bldg?

One of the better ideas for Kauffman Park coming out of one of the planning meetings was to put in soccer fields, making it a destination for soccer playing. Perhaps some thought should be given to how the businesses in this plaza would complement (and benefit from) such a plan. Quaker Steak doesn't seem like a real good fit.

I'm going to agree with that. Quaker Steak doesn't seem like a good fit at all.
