Lakewood To Offer Two Farmers Markets This Year

Lakewood will have two farmers markets this year. The North Union Farmers Market will operate on Wednesdays in the Kaufmann Park Parking Lot. The new Lakewood Farmers Market will be held on Saturdays beginning June 26 in the City Center Park.

The North Union Farmer’s Market will open for its 12th season on Wednesday,
June 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kaufmann Park Parking Lot behind Drug Mart, 15412 Detroit Avenue. The Market will operate every Wednesday through September 29, 2010 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 pm. The Market is operated by the North Union Farmer’s Market in collaboration with the City of Lakewood and features vendors who grow their own produce on small, family-owned farms. Organizers expect up to 15 vendors at each Wednesday’s market.

The new Lakewood Farmers Market will operate on Saturdays beginning June 26 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the City Center Park, in front of Marc’s. The market will operate every Saturday (except August 7 due to the Lakewood Arts Festival) through October 2, 2010. This market is being organized by a volunteer group, with the support of the City, who saw a need to offer an additional market during the weekend. Their mission is to connect local residents with fresh, local, homemade/handmade/homegrown produce and products while encouraging local entrepreneurship and unify the community through sustainable endeavors.

"Lakewood residents have wanted more opportunity for outdoor markets, downtown and on the weekends”, stated Nathan Kelly, Planning and Development Director. “This year, we have both, and I bet they'll be successful.”

We had more than 38 Program Participants, as well as live music, demonstrations, food, etc. More than 5,000 attended the event and this year for the 2nd Annual we are expecting more people and participants! As a Program Participant, we need your confirmed commitment and logistical information by May 28, 2010, to be included on the printed marketing materials and website for the event. Providers who do not commit by May 28, 2010, will be only listed on the website.

LakewoodAlive only designates space. All Program Participants must supply all tables, equipment, power sources, displays, onsite advertising, signage, etc.

FOOD, FOOD, FOOD & DRINK! LAST YEAR’S STREETWALK CROWD WAS STARVING AND THIRSTY FOR YOUR FOOD AND BEVERAGE according to a survey after the successful 1st Annual Lakewood Alive & Well STREETWALK! We had more than 38 Program Participants, as well as live music, demonstrations, etc. More than 5,000 attended the event and this year for the 2nd Annual we are expecting more people and participants! We hope you will capitalize on the 5,000 attendees who will enjoy STREETWALK this year. We want you to have: (a) your downtown district establishment open, serving food, inside or outside, distributing coupons or STREETWALK taster portions, promoting a STREETWALK special and/or sponsor an activity/program outside your establishment; or (b) if you are a business located outside of the downtown district, serving food from a concession table or stand, distributing coupons or STREETWALK taster portions and/or sponsoring an activity/program on the STREET. As a Program Participant, we need your confirmed commitment by May 28, 2010, to be included on the printed marketing materials and website for the event.
