StreetWalk News Release

July 1, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAkewood celebrates healthy lifestyles “on the Street”

LakewoodAlive and Live Well Lakewood announce the first annual Lakewood Alive & Well StreetWalk to be held from 3-8pm on Saturday, July 18 on closed Detroit Avenue in Downtown Lakewood.

Local businesses and nonprofit organizations will promote wellness and active living with programming that gets participants moving on the street. Activities include US Army climbing wall, skate board demonstrations, basketball, square dancing, soccer skill building, Jazzercise, fencing, youth dance-a-thon, tumbling and much more. Audience participation is encouraged and expected!

Winners of the Live Well Lakewood Wellness Challenge will be recognized at the event. With the generous support of Lakewood Hospital and the City of Lakewood, this StreetWalk is free and open to the public.

Mayor Ed FitzGerald said, “StreetWalk 2009 will celebrate the many healthy-living options available in the City of Lakewood. I look forward to joining residents and visitors ‘in action’ at this event.” Mary Anne Crampton, executive director of Downtown Lakewood revitalization efforts added, “Everyone is joining in the fun. Even our merchants are going to be out on the street with a sidewalk sale to encourage participants to experience the walkability of our shopping district.”
